little tidbits

Posted by Rebecca On November - 20 - 2009

I know that I still owe you some pictures on my last post!  I finished a lot of things!  I really need to get my electronic situation worked out!  Anyway, I have some things that I want to update you on- even though there will be no picutres in my post again.  :(

  • First- I have joined in the Joy in the New Year Challengethat Jaquie is hosting.  I am excited!  I will put my list of what I need to accomplish up in the next couple of days.
  • There is also a give away over on the Flea Market Fancy Freaks blog- this is an exciting one since this fabric has been discontinued and is really hard to find!

  • I got another book from the library- this one is is Artisian Bread in 5 minutes a day.  This one is on my Christmas list already and I haven’t even baked anything out of it yet!  I did buy a dough container and yeast today at the store.  So I will put my 5 minutes in today and tomorrow I will have fresh baked bread!  I plan on making some sandwhich bread- I don’t want to buy it anymore.  It is too expensive.  Especially since I like high quality bread.

Ok- I have some knitting that I need to  finish by next week!  I had better get some work done on that while Little Helper is napping!

knitting again

It seems like I have taken a brief hiatus from crafting.  Well, things are not always what they seem… I have started knitting a pair of socks.  I really like knitting, but the bad thing about it is that things that WAY more time to complete.  Here is where I am on the socks…

I really wanted to knit 2 socks at the same time on 2 circular needles.  So I did some looking in my local yarn store for patterns and didn’t really find anything that I liked (and felt was worth the money!) so I followed that shopping with some internet searching.  I found Silver’s Sock Class through a little google searching.  Then I looked on Ravelry and found it again.  So- Silver Sock class it is!  She does not have instructions for 2 socks at a  time on 2 circular needles.  I just took a peek at 2 socks on 1 circular needle and used that as a guide for how to add the second sock.  It really isn’t that hard!  It just takes a long time…

Oh- and as you can see from the picture, these are toe up socks.  I am making them out of a merino wool yarn.  So if they take until November that is fine- I wouldn’t wear them before then anyway!

Next I am working on some Oliver and S outfits for Little Helper.  And I have this jumble of projects in my mind of what I want to do.  I think that I need to put together a list and prioritize!  My Mom is visiting again next weekend.  So I could probably get another quilt top done if I wanted to.    But I told my mom about Lumberjack Days so we might be going there instead of getting lots of crafting done!

knitting goals

Posted by Rebecca On June - 21 - 2009

So, I have been neglecting my knitting a bit.  I travelled for work last week and I tried to bring some knitting with me, but I had some pattern transport issues.  So I didn’t get very far.  Anyway, Ali over at Skeins Her Way is having a summer knitting goals setting contest.  I like the idea of setting goals- that gives me something to target!

So- here is my list!

  1. Knit a pair of socks (For me!!).
  2. Learn to cable knit.
  3. Knit a sweater for Little Helper
  4. Start to knit a sweater for Little Helper.  I have chosen one- it is cable (hence #2 on my list!) and hooded.  It is a pattern in  a Debbie Bliss Book that I have sitting around.  This one doesn’t need to be completed until January or so.
  5. Knit 2 pair of slippers for my friend’s housewarming gift.

When I started my list, it was only 3 things.  Then I added the last 2.  And now I (almost) feel overwhelmed!  I just don’t think that we should show my list to Will (husband).  He is upstairs doing our budget right now.  I don’t know that he needs all of the all of the details on how much money I want to spend on hobbies.  Especially when you consider the other projects that I have lined up-

  1. Finish doll quilt
  2. Finish my first quilt
  3. Quilt that I am making with my cousin
  4. Dress for Little Helper
  5. Shirt and shorts for Little Helper
  6. Quilt for friend’s housewarming gift

And anything else that comes up!!  Ok- I have to go and finish folding laundry so that I can do some fun crafts!  All of this talking about my projects is getting me excited and motivated!

Ok, this one is a giveaway, but I am not the one giving!  There is a new line of yarn being launched by Blue Sky Alpacas called Spud and Chloe.  It is launching in June 2009 and various bloggers are getting their hands on some and doing giveaways!  The latest one that I found is over at Skeins Her Way.  Hurry up, because you only have until Monday at midnight!

(Oh- and make sure you tell her that I sent you- we will each get an extra entry!)
