new beginnings

Posted by Rebecca On September - 9 - 2009

In my last post I showed you the doll quilt top that I had put together.  Well, I was started to get concerned because I have never done any sort of applique or embroidery.  And I was going to have to learn how to do one- and quick!  So I brainstormed again.  And came up with a new idea.  I am not done with it, but I am making really good progress!  So here is a sneak peak of a small part of what I have completed.  So far, I am liking it quit a bit.  I hope my swap partner does too!

beginnings of a doll quilt- finally!

Posted by Rebecca On September - 4 - 2009

I finally started my doll quilt!  Well, I guess I started it a couple of weeks ago- using my original idea.  I hated it, so I barely got anywhere on it and started over this weekend.  This is what I have so far.  Will commented that it looks the same as everything else I make.  :(   I think that this is because I had a block that I had made for my quilt along with my cousin sitting out- since I kind of used that a little for my inspiration.  Oh well.  I like how this is turning out!

I will admit that I started out going for wonky.  I don’t think that I kept it up very well though.  I also have two white squares in there that I have to put something in.  I am thinking either  a puppy or a bird of some sort.  Birds seem to be very popular in the online quilting community.  Also, I think that a bird would be easier.  And since this will be my first try at applique, I don’t want to do something that is too hard!

going crazy

I have lost it.  I heard that Heather Ross’ Mendocino line was being discontinued and I NEEDED to buy some.  And some turned into a lot.

 So, here it is.

I bought at least a half yard of each.  Most are 1 yard.  And 2 are more like 3.  I had some favorites, ok?  Really, the ones that I wanted a bunch of, but couldn’t find are aqua seahorses.  Anyone know where I can get some?

In addition to buying way too much fabric, I made my first block for one of the online quilting bees that I am in.   It is for A Piece of Work B.  If I could figure out how to put buttons on the side of my blog, I might have one there for this!

I really like making this type of block.  It provides just the right amount of freedom and structure for me.  I see string quilts in my future!

Now, if only I could get it together and finish up my doll quilt for the doll quilt swap!
