halloween costume?

Posted by Rebecca On October - 18 - 2009

I have been having trouble choosing a costume for Little Helper this year.  I am leaning toward not dressing her up- even though I feel like when she is 25 she will tell me how she is emotionally scarred due to me not dressing her up for Halloween.  Maybe I will win one of these http://grosgrainfabulous.blogspot.com/2009/10/queen-of-hearts-and-alice-in-wonderland.html costumes and then my problems will be solved!

These are really AMAZING costumes- I kind of wish the Queen of Hearts dress would fit me!  :)

What are your kids dressing up as?  Do you think that I should dress up my 23 month old?  Any inexpensive and easy ideas for me?

I would definitely go for a costume. I went through a period of *not* doing it up for a lot of holidays, figuring my kids were just too young to understand, so it didn’t matter. And then I realized that you have to start holiday traditions somewhere, and I was sad not to be celebrating.

I have costumes for my 26-month-olds, which they have already worn and seem to really enjoy. I got them from Old Navy. Lots of stores have their costumes on sale right now. Is it the most creative, crafty thing? No. Maybe next year I’ll make their costumes, for this year I only made the bags.

I say do it. Dress her up, take pictures, teach her “trick or treat” and stop by a few neighbors’ houses. It’ll be fun, and you’ll be glad to have the pics to look back on.

Do you have a Once Upon a Child store near you? I got my 15 month old a costume there for $4.50. I think the dressing him up at this point is more for me than for him, but I love Halloween.

I’d say go for it — some of my favorite pictures in my “baby book” are of me and my little sister in homemade costumes. My mother didn’t have any money, so we didn’t do like people do these days and buy $80 costumes (for one night? are you kidding me? Saw that the other day) — we’d be gypsies (in her scarves and costume jewelry), ghosts (Charlie Brown style), angels (a little cheap gold lamé, pipe cleaner halos, and old stockings over coat-hanger wings), or a surprisingly creepy pair of cloth dolls, with (completely breathe-through-able) muslin faces. My kid brother often went as a double agent (two trench coats, two pairs of glasses, two nametags, etc.) or “Paper Bag Man” (like the Tin Man, but with paper bags) when he got older, but the costumes my sister and I wore were when we were 2-5 years old… it’s so worth it!

I love the idea of a lawn gnome! It’s pretty easy to make a hat and beard out of felt, dress her in overalls, and it’s cute!

oooh…that lawn gnome idea is a good one! I’m happy that A is getting a costume this year. I can’t wait for the pictures.

I am even thinking of buying a few costumes on clearance this weekend for Elena to play dress up in…depending on how cheap I can get them..
